Job - Director of Web and Media Engagement

Central UMC, a Reconciling congregation of the United Methodist Church, currently living as two expressions--a traditional century-church and a newly-developing church-within-a-church--seeks a specialist who will be responsible for the overall digital strategy and online presence of CUMC and its related ministries, including developing innovative media content across web, mobile and email platforms.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop, maintain, manage, and update the CUMC website for both expressions of CUMC
  • Develop web and social media resources to ensure that the digital presence of Christ and the vision of Central is fulfilled through all relevant media and online platforms, including  Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and other similar applications, posting on relevant blogs, and seeding content into social applications as needed.
  • Increase brand awareness, generate inbound traffic and encourage product adoption when applicable
  • Write, edit, and proofread website content, maintaining a consistent look and feel throughout all media
  • Serve as content manager for the church’s online presence; coordinate web projects; pull and post appropriate content from various ministries
  • Create event registrations and forms using forms engines
  • Establish reporting systems for each platform
  • Identify threats and opportunities in user generated content and report to appropriate parties
  • Provide training/support of online platforms for church staff and members as needed
  • Assure web-based information is archived for future needs and reference
  • Attend and report at regularly scheduled church staff meetings and monthly meetings of the Church Council and Fellowship Council.
  • Accept flexibility in scheduled work hours based upon special events and projects

 

REQUIREMENTS

  • Be a growing, committed, and enthusiastic follower of Jesus Christ
  • Ecumenical and inclusive outlook, supportive of UMC traditions in a Reconciling Congregation
  • Willingness and ability to comply with and support all policies, procedures, standards, and statements outlined in the Employee Handbook and other governing documents of Central United Methodist Church
  • Bachelor’s Degree in marketing, advertising or business administration or equivalent relevant experience preferred, with Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, Software Engineering, or Marketing a plus. Previous experience in a similar position a plus.    
  • A solid understanding of, and experience with, the social media universe, including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest, and emerging platforms
  • Proven track record of interactive project delivery and demonstrable knowledge of Internet technical protocols such as HTML, JavaScript, XML, web publishing and database structure
  • Experience managing web analytics applications (i.e., Google Analytics, etc.)
  • Knowledge of web design, web development, CRO and SEO
  • Knowledge of online marketing and good understanding of major marketing channels
  • Excellent computer skills: Ability to work in Google Drive Docs, Google Drive Sheets, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Premier, iMovie or Final Cut, Facebook Business Manager, MS Office, HTML, JavaScript, WordPress, Adobe Photoshop and other applications as necessary
  • The ability to be highly effective in a team-oriented environment and to build relationships based on added value, not title or authority, is crucial
  • A sense of urgency and a continual drive for results coupled with an ability to partner effectively with senior church leaders
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a working understanding of diverse and international cultures, allowing communication with a wide range of individuals and constituencies in a diverse community
  • A strong command of the English language including expert grammatical skills, exceptional verbal and written communication; online language must be clear and concise with textual communication and delivery
  • Excellent creative problem solving, analytical skills, attention to detail, and administrative abilities
  • Excellent editing, writing, punctuation, and proofreading skills necessary
  • Ability to interact well with all generational levels
  • Ability to maintain professionalism and strict confidentiality
  • Spiritual gifts of Creative Worship, Service, and Administration a plus
  • Excellent time management skills and experience with the ability to work well under tight deadlines
  • Background check with no red flags must be completed prior to interview
  • Must complete CUMC’s required Safe Sanctuary training

 

SUPERVISION

  • The Pastor serves as head of all staff
  • The Staff/Parish Relations Committee is available for any personnel related matters

 

DETAILS

Position details: Part-time, salaried. 10 hours per week/50 weeks, plus regularly scheduled church staff meetings and monthly meetings of the Fellowship Council and Church Council. Flexibility in scheduled work hours based upon special events and projects. Work location can be discussed. Salary commensurate with education and experience.
