WHAT we believe
Central is part of the United Methodist church whose congregation could be placed at a center-to-left leaning area of the theological and social continuums. We believe that all are welcome into God’s church and God’s service, that all people are created in the divine image, and that our job as a community of faith is to be the hands and feet of Jesus in our community and the wider world.
Central is a Reconciling Congregation, which means that all persons are welcome and cherished, regardless of gender identity or sexual orientation. We are active in support of dismantling LGBT+ discrimination in all its forms, including within the denomination’s official polity document, The Book of Discipline.
When persons decide to make the public commitment to be a member of the congregation, this is the promise the congregation offers to them:
We, the friends and members of the Central United Methodist Church, do hereby welcome you into this congregation of the Body of Christ. We promise to share with you our experience of faith and ask that you share yourself with us. We do not presume to tell you what you must believe, for this is a search to be made with God’s guidance, with our company. In this way we shall learn from one another, grow stronger, and more often be faithful to God as servants to all people.
So be it.
Many congregations profess to be welcoming; Central’s truly is.
